Today’s post is dedicated to finding out which are the best golf courses near Lisbon so that after your surfing and yoga pack you can go and practice the discipline of golf, a sport that is increasingly in vogue worldwide.

As you may know, the beautiful resort town of Peniche is located about 50 minutes’ drive from the capital city of Lisbon and right near Boa Onda Guesthouse Peniche you will find a good quality golf course where you can relax once in town. In case, however, your level is high and you want to try your hand at more exciting challenges, below you will find the list of the best golf courses located near the Lusitanian capital. These include the course present at the MH Atalantico resort, which is the Peniche golf course we have already told you about in one of our previous posts.

Best golf courses near Lisbon

It is common practice among golf enthusiasts to choose destinations where they can combine the quality of the courses with the beauty of the city or area at which they are located. Obviously, Portugal’s capital fully meets this need, having several courses of excellent quality and an innate cultural charm. Completing this dreamy picture are the beautiful scenery and favorable climate that throughout the year allow for carefree golfing in Portugal.

For these reasons, golfers from all over the world travel to Lisbon each year to play golf, taking advantage of Portugal’s state-of-the-art facilities. It is noteworthy that right here is the first European golf course and the second in the world to have received Audubon International’s Certified Signature Sanctuary/Gold, namely the Oitavos Dunes in the Serra de Sintra Natural Park. This golf course is ranked number one in Portugal and 55th among the 100 best golf courses in the world. It possesses an 18-hole course designed by renowned architect Arthur Hills, with par 71 and length of 5,967 meters. A unique beauty.

 

Praia d’El Rey Golf Course

Among the golf courses located in and around Lisbon, the Praia d’El Rey course is located in the vicinity of Peniche and certainly deserves special mention because of its special features. Designed by renowned golf course architect Cabell Robinson, this course leaves players speechless because of its technical beauty as well as its location close to the ocean.In fact, as many as 9 holes out of 18 are oceanfront.

On the horizon from hole 2 is the beautiful island of Berlenges, a true nature paradise in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. The real challenge, however, is the 570 meters of hole 17.The minimum handicap to enter the course is 36 for both men and women.

Estoril Golf Course

Heading westward from downtown Lisbon and still moving toward the coast, we find the beautiful town of Estoril, which in addition to the renowned local casino also offers for aspiring Tiger Woods the Estoril Golf Course. Located just a 25-minute drive from the town, it is surrounded by classy hotels and luxury resorts. This 18-hole golf course was designed by architect Mackenzie Ross and is surrounded by pine and eucalyptus groves.

 

Clube de Golfe di Quinta da Marinha

Next, in the vicinity of the elegant town of Cascais we find the Clube de Golfe at Quinta da Marinha, designed by the well-known Robert Trent Jones. It is an 18-hole, par 71 course with breathtaking panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Serra de Sintra. Must try and try again for its beauty.

 

Other Golf Courses in the Sintra area

Also in this area is Pestana Beloura Golf and Belas Clube de Campo with its famous lake on the final green. Although requiring a very precise playing strategy, this course is appreciated by players with various handicaps.

In this eastern part of the Portuguese capital about 40 minutes away by car are the

  • Santo Estevão Golf with 18 holes in the locality of Benavente
